Time Travel Marvel

I shift back in forth in my chair waiting for Mr. Tahan to arrive. The time travel class is the one I have been waiting for since I found out my gift was traveling through time. I just need the tools to harness it and this lesson is the key.

My dematerialization debacle was the topic of dinner conversation last night, but I just sat back and enjoyed my meal. I made my decision right after class that all the humiliation I have endured is indeed worth the trouble. How could I quit when I knew the lesson for my special gift was next? Besides, I have Briana’s smile and knowing wink to play over and over in my head. She must have liked how my physique appeared without my clothes. Evidently, the pushups I do every morning have paid off.

The class files in followed by Headmaster Tahan. He gives me a quick glance noticing once again I am early. Then he heads up to the blackboard. In his usual large block lettering he writes, Power Skill Four-Time Travel. When he turns to face us, I notice the gash on his cheek is now nothing but a faint scar. It appears genies have an accelerated healing ability. One more benefit of becoming a Jin.

The Headmaster stands with his feet apart, as if he is anchoring himself to the floor. “Class, time travel is the most difficult of the power skills. Obviously, you must be proficient in dematerializing long before you attempt time travel. So, I hope you have all been diligently practicing your dematerialization skills.”

The class nods, although I am certain there are a few people like myself who still cannot quite get their hair to disappear completely. All I can do is hope by some miracle it will finally vanish in class.

He relaxes his stance just a fraction. The seriousness of the lesson continues to be obvious. “Time travel is not the same as dematerializing to move from one location to the next. It is traveling from one point in time to another, which of course is quite a different accomplishment altogether. As I explained before, Jin need to gather a lot of knowledge to do their job. With time travel you must have a grasp of time in order to travel through it.” The Headmaster holds up a pair of eyeglasses. “These glasses were developed by the High Council so that we could look into the future as well as the past to find our way through time. I will be handing out the training glasses. But before you get too excited, they only let you see a decade into the past. When you become Jin you will be given glasses that can look into the future up to a hundred years. Now that is something to look forward to.”

Indeed. How I long to see that far into the future. Another reason to make it through the academy. I try not to be disappointed by the fact we will only be traveling ten years into the past.
